Hello Friends!
My name is Nathan Hood. I am twenty-three years old. I was born in Texas, and since age six have grown up in Matthews, North Carolina (Charlotte). I became a Christian at a young age, and grew up in church. When I got to college I began to take stock of where I was as a person and what kind of shape my faith was in.
I began to ask myself: Do I really live what I say I believe?
I started down a road that led to brokenness and a new revelation of Christ as my Redeemer and Friend. This journey led me to small service opportunities in school and a couple short, local missions trips. I needed more though, some type of understanding of the world beyond America and my own comfortable existence. I needed a bigger view of God, what He was doing in other places, and a way to serve others.
Having never had a stamp in my passport before, I set out on the World Race and, over the course of eleven months, traveled to the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, Southern Africa, and Europe. I have always had countless blessings, and the race is a big one. Through this trip, God has opened me to a lot of different things: from how I look at God and his plan, how I view myself and what my future could look like, to how people around the world live, interact, and what they believe. I have experienced so much blessing in being on a world race squad, and on my team. I have lived in deeper and more meaningful Christian community here than anywhere else in my short life so far - this was the hardest part and best part of the race.
The race has been an incredible step in my journey, and I come off of it with an eye to the future and an expectancy for what is to come. Nestled in southern Spain there is a group of people "dreaming of a better world." I have been called to join them in the dreaming, and perhaps to see what God's dream for my life is. I desire to see "Christ formed in me," and to live a life of service and joy for my King, Jesus Christ. I desire to lose my life for the sake of Christ, to follow where He leads, and in doing so, to have an impact in this world for the kingdom of God. G42 Leadership Academy is a place where I will be challenged and pushed, and taught about discipline, leadership, grace, covenant, worship, servanthood, and adventure, to name a few.
This is my blog, which I will update periodically as I continue on this path God is leading me on. Thank you for reading. My blogs from the race are here, as well as a few pictures and links. Thanks!
On another note, I have two awesome, loving parents, Larry and Jayne, and two brothers, Daniel and Micah. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Studio Art. I played competitive ultimate frisbee in college and afterward. Sports growing up included baseball, basketball and swimming, and I've also played rugby and ultimate over the years. I really enjoy music and singing, though I don't play an instrument, and I can't really sing. I also enjoy the occasional book, favorites ranging from Mere Christianity and anything else by Lewis, to The Brothers Karamazov and The Count of Monte Cristo.
